Current Fire Station 8 opened in February of 1972.  It replaced Old Fire Station 8, which was located at 21st Street and East Ave. from 1913 to 1972.   Fire Station 8 went through an extensive interior and exterior remodel in the mid 1980s.

There is a plaque and a tree planted in honor of Morris Duane New, the only Austin firefighter killed in action in Vietnam.
